About

Small Biz SG explains how to set up and run a small company in Singapore — incorporation, business banking, tax and GST, accounting, and payroll and HR.

It is written for two kinds of reader: someone in Singapore starting their first company, and someone overseas who wants to incorporate here and cannot tell which of the hundreds of corporate service providers to believe. Most of what turns up in a search for this is written by firms selling the service. This site is not.

I’m John Kim. I’m Korean, I moved to Singapore in 2014 and became a permanent resident in 2023. In 2024 I registered a company of my own here, and got it wrong the first time — filing as a sole proprietorship when what I wanted was a private limited company. It took a second round, with an accountant’s help, to put right. After that came the corporate bank account.

That’s the perspective this site is written from: someone who went through it once as a beginner and had to look up every step. I’m not a lawyer, an accountant or a corporate service provider, and I don’t work for one. Where a post covers something I haven’t done myself, it says so plainly.

How posts are made

Every post is drafted with AI assistance, then fact-checked and approved by me before it is published. Nothing goes up that I have not read.

Facts about fees, deadlines and eligibility come from official sources — ACRA, IRAS, CPF Board, MOM and MAS — and each post says the date those facts were checked. Rules change, and a guide that does not tell you how old it is cannot be trusted.

Where I compare providers, the comparison is built from prices they publish themselves. Where I have not tested something, the post says so rather than implying otherwise.

What this site is not

It is not legal, tax or financial advice. It explains how the rules work and what things cost; it does not tell you what to do in your situation. For that, speak to a lawyer, an accountant or a licensed adviser.
